The Sacramento Racial Equity Alliance came together four years ago with the idea that all communities in Sacramento deserve equitable and intentional investments. This vision arose during the COVID pandemic when we saw historically marginalized communities in Sacramento struggling with violence, housing, homelessness, and access to mental healthcare. In shaping the design of the racial equity planning process, the City of Sacramento entrusted Race Forward and the Sacramento Racial Equity Alliance to craft a vision, mission, and values statement for long-lasting racial equity in our city. The Racial Equity Alliance continues to steward this work as it develops.

About the Racial Equity Alliance

The Racial Equity Alliance (REA) is a multiracial network of community-based organizations, leaders, and residents working to advance racial justice in Sacramento. REA builds power with communities most impacted by systemic inequities, many of whom hold intersecting identities and live in historically under-resourced neighborhoods. We believe equity is not symbolic; it is an obligation. Our work centers community leadership and lived experience to co-create solutions with government that move beyond promises toward measurable progress; shifting power to community, investing deeply and inclusively, and strengthening transparency and accountability. Grounded in this commitment, we work toward a Sacramento where all communities are valued, historic harm is addressed, and lasting policies and investments support a more fair, just, and resilient city.
